  • 1.5 cups Warm Water Between 110-115°F
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher Salt Sea salt can be used
  • 1 package Active Dry Yeast Or 2¼ teaspoons
  • 4.5 cups All-Purpose Flour Can use bread flour
  • 0.25 cups Melted Butter Can substitute with oils
  • 10 cups Water For boiling
  • 0.67 cups Baking Soda
  • 1 large Egg Yolks With 1 tablespoon of water
  • Pretzel Salt Coarse sea salt may be used
For the Salsa Verde Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Flour Can substitute with cornstarch
  • 1 cup Milk Any milk variety
  • 1 cup Grated Cheddar Cheese Or Monterey Jack
  • 1 packet Velveeta Cheese Sauce Omit for homemade version
  • 0.33 cups Salsa Verde Or green salsa

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and kosher salt in a bowl; sprinkle with yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and melted butter; mix until smooth; knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Shape dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 50-55 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 450°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide into 8 pieces, and shape each into a 24-inch rope, twisting ends into a pretzel shape.
  6. In a pot, bring water to a boil, add baking soda, and boil pretzels for 30 seconds each.
  7. Lift pretzels out and place on baking sheets; brush with egg wash and sprinkle with salt.
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For the sauce, melt butter, whisk in flour, add milk, then cheese and salsa until smooth.
