Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a medium to large saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of Red Hot candies. Heat over medium-high until boiling, stirring until all candies have melted, about 5–7 minutes.
- While the syrup is heating, peel and quarter 4–6 apples, removing the cores for even cooking.
- Once syrup boils, carefully add the prepared apples to the pan and stir to coat. Raise heat to high, stir frequently to prevent sticking, about 2 minutes.
- Reduce heat to medium and simmer the apples gently, stirring occasionally for about 10–15 minutes, until tender.
- Optional: Add a few drops of red food coloring during the last minutes of cooking and stir well.
- Transfer the cooked apples to a serving dish to cool for a few minutes before serving.
