- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves.
- Cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add the large eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and sour cream, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
- Fold in the finely chopped apples and nuts if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
- Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
